Nano-Technology Improves Stain Performance 200-600%

SaverSystems has joint ventured with several companies to develop a new long lasting stain technology.  Our research efforts over the last year and a half have lead to a new development in the performance of exterior, semi-transparent wood finishes to protect your deck.

Project_buttonA newly developed nano-technology used in combination with our existing technology has been found to significantly increase the durability and weather resistance of our synthetic resin based deck stains. This new light stabilizing nano-technology actually works by blocking and absorbing the harmful UV rays from the sun that damage your wood.

Not only does this new technology help prevent wood from graying it also helps prevent water intrusion while resisting  fungal growth. The independent test results are in, and below are photo’s of the actual test boards which show how the new DEFY Extreme new technology stacks up against the best selling national brands.

DEFY EXTREME STAIN AVAILABLE COLORS:
CLEAR, NATURAL PINE, CEDARTONE, LIGHT WALNUT, BUTTERNUT, REDWOOD, DRIFTWOOD GRAY

DefyExtremeStainColorChart

Defy Extreme Wood Stain utilizes Nano Particles (Similar to Sunscreen) and High Grade Synthetic Resins. When combined they will reflect the sun and provide UV protection that has never been seen in a Tinted Wood Finish. This is a First in the Industry

Defy Extreme Wood Stain can be used on interior or exterior smooth hardwood surfaces including: wood siding, decks, outdoor wood furniture, and other hardwood surfaces.

Defy Extreme – Wood Stain:

  • Utilizing Nano-Particles and Synthetic Resins. Nano Light-Stabilizers block the sun’s harmful UV rays preventing graying
  • Nano particles help prevent mold and algae
  • Semi-Transparent wood finish adds color and protection to your wood
  • Stains and seals your wood from water penetration
  • Water-Based with easy soap and water cleanup
  • VOC Compliant and Eco-Friendly formula
  • Leading protection that will outperform all tinted transparent wood stains

I’m buying several buckets to stain the log home. Is there any color variation from one batch to another?  Do you recommend mixing the buckets together for a consistent tone? Or is it not necessary? Also, we had a bad carpenter bee infestation. Can anything be mixed into the stain to deter them?

Colors are the same between batches. We do not know of anything to deter bees. Best to have sprayed by a company after the stain is applied.

I built my deck last fall (in southern Ontario, Canada) and want to use the semi transparent cedar coloured stain. Do I need to prep the wood? What is best way to apply the stain? One coat or two? How much stain do I need for 20 x 20 with steps and skirting? Thanks.

Yes, prep with the Defy Cleaner and then the Brightener. One coat of stain, apply with a stain pad or brush. We would need a total sq footage of all wood added up for amounts needed.

Hello.  I applied Defy Extreme about 11 months ago.  Under the Texas sun it already needs a maintenance coat.  Can I just pressure wash and apply, or do I need to do a cleaner?  Thank you.

West coast Canada. I have a partially covered cedar deck which was treated with Defy Extreme several years ago. The stain has gone from the exposed area but is still on the covered area. I want to restore the deck. Do I have to strip all of the old stain before applying another coat of Defy Extreme? I would appreciate advice on how to proceed. Thanks

Hello. New treated 640sf pine deck plus railing and pickets (another 300sf) that has been drying out for 6 months and ready to stain/seal. I’ve done a lot of research and like what I see with Defy Extreme Semi-Transparent and like to keep the pine look. I’m thinking to order 10 gallons to be on safe side and would like to know what you recommend in terms of application? I have sprayed, rolled and painted other products in my life but just came across Defy Extreme. Is one way any better than the other?
Thanks

New wood requires only one coat so best to just apply with a stain pad or brush.

We want to preserve a 20 year old deck that has been periodically stained with redwood color. I would like to use your butternut, will it cover it? We have pressured washed it, and will use your cleaner to clean it, will sand rough spots. Do I need to use the brightener and the stripper? Before the Butternut, and would satin or semi transparent be best if I want to see some of the wood grain, but cover old flaws like splinters? I want to save money if I don’t need all four products, but don’t want to have to re do it. Lynn

You cannot apply the Defy Stains over a stain of a different brand. The old coatings have to come off first. As to how to remove, that depends on the brand and type of stain? Pictures would help as well.

You will have to strip and brighten the wood when switching any brand of stain like the Defy. Use the Defy Stain Stripper and Defy Wood Brightener.

I’m applying over existing Defy stain that is about 4 years weathered. Will I need 2 coats? I’ve never used 2 coats before and have gotten 4-5 years before needing to restain. Also, is the new extreme product epoxy?

Just one coat. The Extreme is an improved version of the older Defy Expoxy stain.

Use a stain pad or brush fore applying. For 2 coats, about 500 sq feet per 5-gallon.

Which stain should we use for a new kdat deck? We would lije to atain it right away and not wait if that’s possible.

New KDAT wood needs to season for 1-2 months and then prepped with the Defy cleaner and the Defy wood brightener. Use the Defy Extreme Stain.

When I last stained my wood deck I had a couple of gallons of Extreme semi transparent left over. How long is it good for? It’s been at least a couple of years. Is it still good?

Hard to say. Depends if they were opened and how they were stored. If mixes fluidly then probably okay.

If properly stored, how many years will I be able to store the stain and it still be good to apply?

I built a large wood deck out of Garapa 10 years ago and have used other stain products. We tried the Defy extreme light walnut hardwood stain and love the results, however we noticed that after a good downpour the other day that the water was only beading up in certain places. Should it be beading up everywhere? We stripped it and brightened it prior to staining. I wish I took a few before photos to show the change. Stafford Springs CT

No. It is a breathable stain that does not bead water but sheds water. Looks great!

We stripped, brightened and recoated with light walnut again this Spring/Summer. I had to sand a few places where the old stain would not come off of the Garapa(hard wood) with PWasher. People still ask if we just built it going on 13 years. Stain every 2-3 years.

I’m installing t-111 siding with 1×3 pine battens over the grooves for a natural wood “board-n-batten” look. I want to stain/seal with Extreme. Should I stain the T-111 and the battens separately prior to installing? … or stain all together after the battens are installed? … In other words, how best can I get the stain/seal behind the battens? If stained after full install, will “unstained” shadows appear as the structure ages?

No. Stain after install, just the exposed wood. No need stain behind.

I’m building a 24 x 32 detached garage using T-111 siding. Wanting to do all the trim (corners, window casing, etc.) in white. Can I stain everything (including the trim) with Extreme and then paint over the trim with white exterior latex paint? … or, do I need to leave off the trim, stain the siding by itself, the put on the painted trim after the siding staining is done?

Do this “… or, do I need to leave off the trim, stain the siding by itself, the put on the painted trim after the siding staining is done”

Prep with the Defy Wood cleaner after the sanding. Do not sand with grit finer than 80.

We have a log home in South Dakota that needs to be re-stained – we have used Defy original, color: Teton Bronze. Can I switch to your Defy Extreme? If so, what color would closely match the Teton Bronze in the Extreme Line?
Thanks

You can switch but there is not a color that will match exact. Closest would be the Light Walnut.

What would be the advantage to switch to the Defy Extreme over the original Defy? And would I need to do any special prep to make the switch?

Better UV protection from fading with the Extreme. Make sure and prep with the Defy Wood Cleaner first.

See this about new wood: https://www.defystainhelp.com/prep-new-wood-for-defy-stains/

Use the Defy Extreme after the wait and prep.

When staining a new western red cedar fence, do you recommend spraying? The wood has a fair amount of roughness to it.

You can spray this but make sure to back wipe/brush and drips so it dries evenly.

I just had a western red cedar fence installed and would like to stain it. Fencing is rougher than decking, so I’m not sure your advice for decking applies. Do I have to prep the wood before staining? How long do I have to wait before staining? Also, the rot boards are pressure treated pine. Can I stain them with the same stain I will use on the cedar?

If the wood is rough sawn you can stain right away as long as the wood is dry and clean. No prep should be needed if clean. You can use the same stain for all.

Does your Extreme Wood Stain product actually penetrate into the wood, or does it act as a film on top of the wood surface. I’ve tried several products which claim to penetrate, but actually only form a film on the surface, which is prone to extensive peeling after only a few months…

The Defy Extreme is a penetrating stain but you do have to prep correctly and not over applicate.

The Defy Wood Cleaner followed by the Defy Brightener.

I have a 2 year old barn/shed that I had built that has T-111 siding. The person who built it for me used Olympic Maximum Semi-Transparent water based stain on the siding. The stain is starting to look like it could use another coat in the near future due to some fading, but it is not in bad shape or mildewed or the like. I am considering using your stain based on the review given at deckstainhelp.com. If I switch to your product which is also water based, do I need to use your wood stain stripper, or would the wood deck cleaner & brightener be sufficient?

Hi Gary, you will need to remove the Olympic fully first with the stripper and even possibly some sanding. Use the Defy Wood Brightener after.
