Hello
Will the Defy solid color stain cover the expoxy based semi trans stain I use like 15 years ago?
Yes, it will!
Ok thank you. Anything special I should know.
Prep by removing all dirt, grime, mildew, and loose or peeling stain. You can then cover the clean and intact stain with the Defy Solid Stain.
Thank you very much
I want a solid stain in a medium brown gray taupe color. I don’t want to do custom bc I don’t need 5 gallons. I didn’t see an option for 1 gallon solid custom . Can I mix 2 of your colors together? I was thinking taupe & dark cocoa or dark walnut ? Ty!
Yes, you can mix colors.
If I pressure wash my deck that currently has a solid, water based, Redwood color stain on it, will the Defy Light Walnut color stain cover the redwood color adequately?
Yes, but you will need the two coats.
did you end up doing the light walnut over your redwood and if so, how did it turn out? i am in a similar situation!
Do you have a picture of the different solid stain colors ? I am looking for the darkest brown, Almost black.
See here for the custom solid color tint page: https://www.deckstain.com/defy-solid-color-wood-stain-tintable-5-gallon.html
Do you recommend 1 or 2 coats, and approximately what is the square footage coverage per gallon?
APPLY: Most applications require 2 coats of product be applied, waiting for the first coat to dry before applying the second.
DRY TIME: To touch, one to two hours depending on temperature and humidity. Allow 24 hours for deck to completely cure before using. High humidity and lower temperatures can greatly increase dry time.
CLEAN-UP: Clean tools and equipment immediately after each use with soap and water.
COVERAGE: One gallon will cover approximately 200-300 sq. ft. per coat, depending on wood texture and porosity.
Am interested in Defy solid color stain in Light Walnut. Can anyone tell me if this color leans more to light brown or medium brown? Also, is the tone of this color is warm (reddish) brown or a cooler brown?
Colors vary based on the wood age, application, and the UV reflection for the solid stain. There is no way for us to say with certainty how it will look in your environment when done. It tends to be medium brown with a hint of red.
I just had my house stained with PPG Proluxe 005 semi transparent, an oil based product. I’m not happy with the results even though it is the same stain that was on the house when I bought it. There is an orange tinge. Would Defy solid stain be a good stain to cover it? I’m concerned about its ability to adhere and resist peeling.
After you strip and brighten, then you can use the Defy Solid stain.
Would like to apply defy solid color wood stain to my older deck that has previously been stained with Cabot solid stain. What are the prep steps? Cleaner, stripper, brightener? All three? In what order?
Thanks!
Strip to remove the peeling stain as much as possible. Brighten after. You do not have to fully remove the old coating, just what is loose and peeling.
No need for the cleaner.
Hello, On Deckstainhelp I read that this product can be tinted to any custom color. I want to stain my railings hunter green. Can you provide the tinting or do I need to buy that separately? If so can you suggest what I should use?
Also, I’m interested in considering a semi-transparent or semi-solid stain that can be tinted green. Is such a product available?
Thanks!

Look at the custom color chart in the pics. It is not possible to custom tint a semi-transparent or semi-solid.
is there a difference between this Defy solid wood stain and sealant VS Defy Extreme Solid?
There is only one Defy Solid Stain, not two. It does say “Extreme” on it.
hi, do you sell samples of the pre mixed solid colour stain?
Sorry but we do not.
We have a 15 year old cedar deck that has been stained with an oil-based stain. We recently had to replace about a third of the deck due to some rotting wood. What would be the best way to prep the old and new deck so that coating with Defy solid stain would result in the most uniform look?
Prep with our Defy Stain Stripper first. Defy Brightener after. Yes, the solid stain would give the most uniform appearance between new and older wood.
how to apply this product? roller or brush. deck is old and has previously been stained with opaque stain. help
Use rollers and brushes for the application of the Defy Solid Stain. Make sure to prep by removing any loose or peeling stains.
Can I order a custom color for the solid stain?
Sorry but no, we do not custom tint this.
Ok on new and old wood? Replacing fence panels with new; attaching to older tested posts . Want to spray all with one solid stain. Do you hand sample comes? Interested in grey.
