I sanded/stained my cedar deck with Sikkens SRD semi-transparent stain 2 years ago and would like to try Defy Extreme. I live in Canada. Can I use the wood stripper only or will the deck have to be sanded as well? The deck is in pretty good shape considering its age. I’ve read that cedar will darken unless brightened so the steps would be: strip (or sand), brighten and stain?
Strip off what you can, and sand if needed after to remove any stubborn areas. Brighten all when done.

I have read that the Defy Stain Stripper can permanently make cedar wood darker. Is there any truth to that?
All deck strippers will darken wood while using and that is why you must neutralize with a brightener to lighten the wood back up. It is not permanent.
I have a semi solid BM on cedar tha t i want to strip – is this the correct product?
Post some pictures of the stain on the wood that you want to strip.
Some of it is peeling, some has good adhesion – its is three years old, which it seems that is all I get out of any product on a deal surface
You cannot strip this stain. It is a solid opaque stain in appearance and it is not possible to strip this type.
I will be refinishing a very worn deck. No idea what was used on it previously, but it looks like any previous finishing is gone. Would it hurt to use the stripper just in case? Also, do I need to protect painted spindles from the stripper?

Withing 20 minutes is best. Does not matter how long the stripper sits. Strippers will not remove a solid stain.

I am trying to refinish a raised panel wooden garage door. It was stained about 7 years ago. I was able to sand the flat areas. I wondered if the stain stripper would work on the panels.

TLDR is there any benefit to applying stripper to old un-stained dirty decking?
I re-decked my deck rails, stairs and bench last year with green treated pine. I re-decked the main area a couple of years ago. Unfortunately there has been some meat dripping (from smoker) and oil spills on the two year old decking. I did buy stripper for other areas however my question is will the help the unstained re-decked areas that the messes I described? Is there any benefit to applying the stripper to these un-stained areas at all? I am going to follow up with the wood brightener regardless.

The BM Arborcoat cannot be stripped off. Sanding will be needed to remove it. As for the Defy Extreme, you will need about 10 gallons for the two coats.

Use the Stripper and pressure washing. Brighten after. The rest of the CWF needs to come off.

I have floor sanded the decks and also applied wood cleaner and then pressure washed. Not sure if I’ve adequately prepped though, and I’ve copied a link to two photos below. What steps are required to remove years of tompsons water sealer prior to using Defy wood stain?
1. If you pre wet and rinse the plants form any over spray you will not have issues. Failure to do this could result in browning of the leaves.
2. Not when heavily diluted as it would be by the time anything got into the water.

Strip and or media blast to remove the old coatings so the Defy can properly soak into the wood.
I have a house near the ocean in southern California. My cedar shingles have been stained with water based Cuprinol and SW DeckScapes in the past. Would you recommend using the Srtipper, then Brightener before using Extreme Cedar Tone? Thanks, Walter
It is best to use it as soon as possible but if you cannot then applying a few days later is better then not applying at all.
I used the Defy stain stripper to remove a solid stain and it removed a good bit of it, but it looks like I’ll have to go over it a couple more times to get some of the more stubborn spots. That could take a few days, and the directions call for using the wood brightener “immediately” after using the stripper. Is it okay to use the stripper several days in a row before using the wood brightener to neutralize it?
It depends on which Sikkens you have. If it is the thick “shiny” varnish type Sikkens, then no nothing will get it off effectively. You would need to sand.
I have 2 coats of sikkens on my deck. Will this product remove it effectively? I haven’t come across any comments online about having success getting this stuff off with ANY product.
Yes the Defy Stain stripper will clean everything. I think you need 3 gallon for the two coats on your size deck.
My deck has an old flooring/base with some old stain on it, plus mold/mildew etc. The railings are new wood that has dried for at least a year and is moldy etc. I want to clean all of it of course. Will the stain stripper clean the mold/mildew and clean the newer wood too? or do I need to buy the cleaner to clean everything after the stripper. I would use the Defy Stain Stripper to prep the wood followed by the Defy Wood Brightener to neutralize the stripper. This would be the best way to prep for the Defy Stain in a light color (natural pine).

Looking for some advice. I used your clear epoxy stain for the fist time on a new cedar deck approx 2 years ago. It looked great at first but I have never seen clear stain appearance last more than a year or 2 anyway. Customer wants it done again. I dont want to change products but want to use a Defy stain with a light toner which should hide some of the dirt created over time. My questions…….
