You cannot apply the Defy Extreme Semi-Transparent Stain over any other brand of stain without removing the old stain first. Does not matter if oil or water-based.

I built a small stoop, approximately 8 feet by 4 feet, to cover my deteriorating front concrete steps. I used treated lumber for framing and cedar for floor and railing. I’m in Minnesota and this project was started in June 2021. My question is, can I use Defy semi transparent water base on both sides of flooring boards?  The reason for treating both sides is my concern of mildew because the framing is sitting on top of the concrete.

You can use on both sides.

What is meant by 2 coats, “wet on wet?”

About 1 month again I installed concrete paver stones (16 X 24) over an existing old concrete patio that was 24 feet wide.  I alternated the pattern to prevent exaggerating lines in joints.  I used Easy Joint instead of polymeric sand.
Because of the alternating pattern, I had to cut a few pavers in half using a rented paving saw that used water. I did not rinse off the stones thoroughly after they were cut.  I assumed that would be easy enough using a hose with a power nozzle.  Wrong!  Now I am going to seal the patio using your Masonary Saver Paver sealer.  I want a wet look and limited gloss.
My question is, “What should I do about the white-spotted pavers before sealing it?  Like I said, all I have really done is blast it with a hose nozzle and have not really scrubbed it or applied anything to it.
Also, how long should the patio dry out from rain and/or additional washing before the sealer is sprayed on?
Thank You
Terry Sellers

Send some pictures as we are not sure what the white posts are of if they can be removed. 48 hours after prep or rain to seal.

Hello
In my previous question you said I could use your extreme composite deck sealer on a new outdoor Composite table. But when I looked up the directions it says not designed for use on new composite lumber.
So I am confused can you use this product on a new table or not?

2 coats wet on wet. About 3 gallons of stain. As for Stripper, we would need to see pictures of the current conditions and what stain is on the wood now?

I live in Virginia and have a 20 year old 600 SF pressure treated deck which is was last treated 10 years ago with a product called Ready Seal. Overall the wood is structurally solid. What product do you recommend that I use to prep and seal the deck and how much should I purchase?

You will need to prep with the Defy Wood Cleaner and the Defy Brightener. One container of each. About 6 gallons of the Defy Extreme for the two coats.

I used Defy Extreme Stain ( Driftwood Gray) on a boat dock 5 years ago and on a new deck 3 years ago. Both the dock and the deck need reapplication now. How do I prep both surfaces? The boat dock is weathered and porous. The deck is less porous in most places.

I need to remove the solid stain on a deck that butts again my house that is sided in this steel siding.
Will any of the recommended products (cleaner, stripper, brightener) harm the finish? There is NO space between the deck and the siding, so I am unsure of how to accomplish the work without getting the products on the siding.

It is not possible to strip a solid stain so you will have to power sand if you want to remove it.

I do plan to sand. The question remains about using the other products like cleaner and brightener. I don’t think it will be possible to cover the siding. Will the products harm steel siding and if so, how do we keep this from happening when using products like the cleaner and brightener?

It should not harm the siding but no way to say for certain without doing a test spot.

Yes, you can stain now but make sure to use the Defy Wood Cleaner and the Defy Wood Brightener as the prep. 5-gallons will be very close to being enough.

Hello,
I have a new redwood decking boards which I plan to sand, brighten, then stain. But the posts are 6×6 rough cut fir which have an old coat of stain. How do you recommend removing the old stain on vertical rough cut wood? My concerns are stripper won’t penetrate on a vertical surface and the rough surface is not conducive to sanding. Thanks.

We have a new deck. The wood is p.t. and is double kiln dried. We like the reviews associated with your stain. We were hoping for a light grey color but you don’t seem to have one. Any solutions for us here in Forest City, N.C.. Lastly, given our wood is double kiln dried, how long should we wait to begin the total procedure.

The Defy Extreme comes in a Driftwood Gray. Wait a couple of months and use the Defy Wood Cleaner and the Defy Wood Brightener for the prep.

Two questions: 1) I used DEFY Extreme Semi-transparent (light walnut) on our deck 3 years ago. Now it’s time to re-stain. How much of the old DEFY stain needs to be removed before I apply the stain? Can there be some left, or does it all need to be power-washed off down the the bare cedar? 2) Last time I bought the stain, I found a local retailer (paint store) and bought it there. Can I only buy your stain via this website now? Thanks!

My 14×16 pressure treated deck has been sanded down to bare wood. Boards are in good condition. Can you please advise what stain should be used, oil or water based. Also, I do not want to use a wet on wet product.
I live in Ontario, Canada and my deck faces north.
If I need 2 gallons how much would the total cost be including shipping??

I have a redwood deck about 1000 sq. Feet. It’s 4 years old and in need of a restrain. When the contractor built the deck he only stained the top. Needless to say, there is warping and peeling. I plan to rent a large sander and sand the whole deck. Is there any advice you can offer so I can get a nice looking deck? I live in Flagstaff Az. at an elevation of 7250 feet.

Hello,

It is normal to only stain the top exposed wood. When sanding, do ot use a grit finer than 80. After the sanding do a light cleaning with the Defy Wood Cleaner to help open the grain for the stain.

My deck is 6 years old. It has never been stained but I have put Thompson’s water seal on it a couple of times in the past. The last time that I sealed it was about 3 years ago and it appears to have all worn off. Is there anything else that I would need to do other than cleaning it good before applying the wood stain? Also, is there any need to put a sealer on it after applying your stain or does your product stain and seal?

Prep with the Defy Wood Cleaner and then the Defy Wood Brightener. You cannot nor is there a need to apply a sealer on top of the stain.
